Kayanta is the anglicized Mayan phrase "ka a yaan tah", meaning "to be reborn".
Is there a meaning behind the name?
But, of course. Like every good name should.
The ancient Maya civilization was one of the grandest in the history of the world and is considered as the most technologically advanced of all pre-Columbian civilizations in the Americas. Their society was influenced by a high degree of interaction and direct cultural diffusion. In contrast, today's society is primarily influenced by indirect cultural diffusion with the advent of mass media and the Internet.
The Maya calendar is a system of distinct calendars and almanacs. These calendars could be interconnected in complex ways giving rise to more extensive cycles. In the Mayan calendric system, events could be recorded in a linear relationship to one another, and also with respect to the calendar itself. This system, known as the Long Count, could be extended to delineate any length of time desired. The Maya well understood a linear (past-present-future) conception of time.
